The private flats of the Marquis de Hautefort invite you to enter the daily life of the XVIIᵉ century. Painstakingly restored and staged in 2025, these spaces reveal the intimate world of a grand seigneur in the era of Louis XIV.
A meeting in 1671
An imagined meeting, a lively story
The tour takes the form of an immersive narrative: it's 1671, and the Marquis Jacques-François de Hautefort is entertaining Jean-Baptiste Colbert. You follow this fictional meeting through the antechamber, the bedroom and the study, recently opened to the public, as a privileged guest.
The antechamber - Entering the ritual of court life
The first stage of the experience, the antechamber recreates the codes of court life and high society in the 17th century. Muffled sounds, period furniture and restored décor set the mood: here, people wait, observe and prepare. You can feel the solemnity of the place before any official meeting.
The Marquis's bedroom - In the heart of intimacy
The central area of the tour, the bedroom reveals a more personal side of the Marquis. Restoration and immersive scenography recreate an intimate and symbolic place, where power, daily life and representation come together. Sound effects and detailed décor plunge you into the private life of a great lord.
The research consultancy - A place of power and decision-making
Open to the public for the first time, the Marquis' study is the high point of the experience. In this office of power, between maps and letters, decisions are taken: projects are drawn up, ideas are exchanged and the ambitions of the estate are outlined, at the Château de Hautefort.
Through these flats, the Château de Hautefort offers much more than a tour:
an immersive, embodied experience, where the XVIIᵉ century is experienced from the inside.
