A decisive event for château de Hautefort
The fire on 30 August 1968 marked an abrupt change in the history of Hautefort. In just a few hours, the fire ravaged the roofs, destroyed much of the interior and left the château gutted and vulnerable. At the time, many historic monuments were suffering a tragic fate: lacking the means or the will, they sank into oblivion. Hautefort could have become one of them had it not been for the determination of Baroness de Bastard.
When history becomes experience
Suitable for all audiences
360° immersion
Here, the story isn't read: it's lived. The contemporary scenography takes you through the urgency, emotion and silence left by the fire. Step by step, you'll discover how this tragedy almost caused the château to disappear... before becoming the starting point for its rebirth.
After this immersion, each room, each restored detail takes on a new meaning. You're no longer just visiting a monument: you're discovering a place saved by will and passion, a castle to be experienced as much as contemplated.
