Fascinated by the site and its history, they brought the house and its gardens back to life. Alone after the death of her husband in 1957, the Baroness completed the work and moved into the ch\u00e2teau in 1965. Moved by her passion and determination, everyone rallied round to help and encourage her, from the villagers to leading figures of the day such as Pierre de Lagarde and Andr\u00e9 Malraux. A host of new enthusiasts, both anonymous and well-known, helped to save one of the most prestigious monuments in south-west France.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<p>\u00a0\t\t<\/p>\n<h1>David-Weill patronage<\/h1>\n<p>To preserve this important heritage site, the Baroness set up the Fondation du ch\u00e2teau de Hautefort, which was recognised as a public utility in 1990.
