DANZA!

A vocal recital accompanied by guitar and castanets: In the magical setting of the only classical château in the Périgord, Danza! presents the Spanish music played in Baroque Paris.

Sanguine passions, bitter laments and rousing harangues come to life to dance rhythms, recalling Spain's place in court ballets under Louis XIV, and the French infatuation with Iberian fever. We have never danced as much in France as we did in the XVIIᵉ century. Would it have been the same without our Iberian neighbours? By marrying the Spaniard Anne of Austria, Louis XIII imported the Iberian dances to France. foliassarabandasespañolasAt the same time, he passed on a heritage of Hispanic blood to his son Louis XIV. Spain soon became a major influence on French musical art, captivating audiences with the ardour of its songs and the quirks of its language. But from the palaces to the alleyways, a single spectre haunted its echoes: the pulse of dance, relentless as the Andalusian sun, bewitching as madness.

In a festive and choreographic vein, Vincent Dumestre combines guitar and voice with a rich array of percussion instruments, adding new sounds to his secret discoveries - always with the freshness of improvisation.
